AGBU Toronto announces new journalism scholarship

AGBU Toronto announced on Saturday the launch of a new scholarship for Armenian-Canadian university students pursuing a career in journalism. The announcement came at a reception held at the AGBU Toronto offices on Dec. 10, during which 12 students were awarded AGBU International scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year. Family, friends, and members of the AGBU Toronto executive attended the intimate ceremony.

“AGBU has invested in generations of bright minds seeking to broaden their potential through the pursuit of higher education,” read a part of the statement released by AGBU Toronto.

The annual $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student of Armenian descent enrolled in a journalism program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

The benevolent union has offered students around the world scholarships and bursaries since the 1920s. “Our alumni have contributed to shaping industries, leading communities, and molding the landscape for success within and beyond the Armenian world,” the statement read.

Applications will be open until May 30. Applicants are required to send the selection committee a resume and a letter explaining their career aspirations. More information about the application process and requirements can be read here.

Eligible students can apply for AGBU International scholarships starting in January via the union’s official website
