La Francophonie Ministerial Conference Kicks Off With Moment of Silence in Honor of Late Charles Aznavour


The Ministerial Conference of the International Organization of La Francophonie has kicked off in Yerevan.

Foreign ministers of members states of the organization are taking part in the event.

“Armenia is happy to welcome you. This is a great honor for Armenia. At the same time a great responsibility that Armenia is assuming,” Armenian foreign minister Zohrab Mnatsaganyan said.

The ministers began the session with a moment of silence in honor of Charles Aznavour, the French-Armenian singer who died on October 1 at the age of 94.

“I am asking to pay tribute to the memory of Charles Aznavour with a moment of silence, a great Frenchman, a great Armenian, a great citizen,” the Armenian FM said.

Yerevan is hosting the XVII International Organisation of La Francophonie summit in 2018.

The events, including the Permanent Council session and the Ministerial Session will take place October 7-12, with the summit scheduled for the final two days.

Armenia is a member of the organization since 2008.
