Spirit of Armenia Award bestowed to the Late Arnold Chan

On the opening day of the Canadian Armenian National Representatives Assembly, a ceremony was held on May 4, 2018 for the bestowment of the “Spirit of Armenia” award, upon the late Honourable Arnold Chan of Ontario.

Following the 2015 Federal Liberal victory, Chan was appointed Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. Late Chan was known for his advocacy on behalf of the Canadian Armenian community and enjoyed great relations with the Armenian National Committee of Canada and the entire Canadian-Armenian community. In April 2016, with overwhelming support from the Armenian community and all political parties in parliament, Mr. Chan was elected as chair of the Canada-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship group, which he served with greatest dedication, humility and honesty.

His Eminence Archbishop Papken Tcharian and Mr. Hagop Deragopian, member of the Executive Council of the Prelacy presented Mrs. Jean Yip, the widow of the late Arnold Chan with the Spirit of Armenia Award.

The Spirit of Armenia is awarded to dignitaries as a gratitude and appreciation for their genuine friendship, devotion and exceptional service to the Canadian Armenian Community and the Armenian Nation.
