Earthquake damages shown at St. Sargis Armenian Church in Diyarbakir

The recent 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Elazığ (Kharpert region) in Turkey caused death and destruction and apparently did not spare Armenian cultural heritage. Archways of the historic Surp Sarkis Armenian Church in Diyarbakir, 120 kilometers from Elazığ, has collapsed, as we learn from a Facebook post by Dr. Khatchig Mouradian.

The images below document this most recent damage to the church that has been vandalized and excavated for “Armenian gold” for decades. A person who prefers to remain anonymous took the photographs the day after the earthquake, as we learn from the same post.
